Oh gosh, I haven’t introduced myself yet!
I’m Clarice Grote, MS, OTR/L. I’m an occupational therapist and Medicare specialist. I’m originally from Kansas City, MO (not Kansas), but I currently live in NC! I’ve worked in home health, acute care, outpatient, and dabbled in lymphedema and wound care. I founded Amplify OT in 2020 because I wanted a way to share information on policy and reimbursement with students and practitioners like you!
I gained my initial interest in policy as a student in the first year of my program. I realized a lot was on the line for healthcare in 2016, and I wanted to make sure my voice was heard. So, after researching some opportunities, I decided to apply for a Level II Fieldwork with the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), with their Federal Affairs Team. Fortunately, I was accepted, and I had the pleasure of working with them for three months in the fall of 2017. This means I lived in DC, went to AOTA’s office, and advocate for OT to Congress! It was amazing.
Since then, I’ve continued to seek out opportunities to get involved. I was the Advocacy & Policy Coordinator for AOTA’s Home and Community Health Special Interest Section from 2018-2021 and the Missouri Occupational Therapy Association’s Director of Practice from 2019 – 2021. I’m also an ambassador for the American Occupational Therapy Political Action Committee in North Carolina. I’ve also written a bunch of articles for AOTA, which you can find on my About Me Page. 😀
Now, what you may have noticed, is I got involved really early, and so can you! You don’t need 10 degrees, 6 certifications, and 20 years of experience to be an advocate or leader in our field. You just need some passion!
